September 22, 2026 - PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT INSIDE OUT (PLAIO) JOINS THE CENTER FOR ACADEMIC INNOVATION (CAI)
We are excited to announce that PLAIO, the first online journal devoted to research, theory and practice in the area of prior learning assessment (PLA/RPL/CPL) has now joined the Center for Academic Innovation.
PLAIO (PLAIO.org), first published in 2012, has sought to bring together people from around the globe involved in research, practice, theorizing, policymaking, and experimenting in the recognition and assessment of prior learning. The journal champions PLA as a tool of access, equity, and social justice.
The mission of the Center for Academic Innovation (centerforacademicinnovation.org), a non-profit organization, is to create a more accessible, responsive and flexible higher education ecosystem where adult learners are fully recognized, supported, and empowered to achieve their academic and professional goals.
Together, PLAIO and CAI will create an international community in which we can learn from each other and share ideas, practices, and policies by shaping the ways we recognize what people know and do, thus providing further access to education and work across both the global North and the global South.
