Senior Partner for Military Affairs
Dallas Kratzner
This is a long story, so here goes. Way back in the day I started college right after getting back from Air Force Basic Training - college didn’t go so well, so I stopped out. About 10 years later I realized I need a degree to move forward in my AF career. I really got on fire for college and knocked out a four year adegree in about two years. I used my military workplace learning, CLEP/DSSTs, and doubled up on classes. All of this put me on a path to that has opened up so many doors for the rest of my AF career and life.
What is your personal adult learner story?
What aspect of adult learning are you most focused on?
This one is pretty obvious for me - helping military members use their military learning (both classroom and OJT) to complete their academic pursuits and to create meaningful work opportunities.
I’ve had a chance to work on a number of very interesting and productive projects over the years, a recent favorite was working with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and Dr. Matt Bergman to implement a state-wide initiative to build or enhance credit for prior learning programs. It was an amazing opportunity to help several colleges and universities to either build or improve their program while helping senior leaders, staff, and faculty to better understand the CPL dynamic. It was incredibly rewarding to know we had made a last difference.
Favorite project you’ve worked on?
What excites you about the future of adult learning?
We are experiencing tremendous growth in and recognition of the adult (post-traditional) learner and I’m very excited to see this finally happening. Finally post-traditional learners are being valued and heard, recognition of workplace learning is recognized as potential college credit, and learners at all levels are finding new ways to achieve their academic dreams - and I get to be part of their journeys!
Beach, mountains, or city (vacation site)?
I love to travel! My favorite travel locations include beach, surf, and heat. I like it when the temperature is above my age and ice cream is close by. With this in mind, my wife and I are avid cruisers - cruise ships that is.
